SUMMARY:Create\, Connect\, Age Well: Cyanotype Wall Hanging
DESCRIPTION:Cyanotype is a camera-less photography and printmaking process that uses sunlight to create stunning white-and-blue images. In this class\, you’ll create your own cyanotype artwork by arranging pressed flowers and other flat objects onto pre-treated paper and exposing it to UV light. \nYou’ll experiment with floral composition on an 8.5″x11″ sheet of watercolor paper before developing your print in the sunlight. Then we’ll rinse\, oxidize\, and dry the print before mounting your favorite piece in a wooden magnetic wall-hanging frame — ready to display as soon as you get home. \nPlease note: cyanotype printing depends on sunlight and weather conditions. Overcast days may increase exposure times\, while heavy cloud cover or rain can make printing impossible. If needed\, a rain-date backup session will be scheduled. The instructor will notify students the evening before class if weather conditions appear unfavorable. \nYour instructor will provide the following materials: \n\nAll project materials\, including pre-treated cyanotype watercolor paper\, Cyanotype solutions for student experimentation\, pressed flowers and foliage\, cardboard for backing\, glass and plastic sheets for pressing\, hydrogen peroxide\, drying rack\, 9” wood frames \n\nStudents are asked to bring:  \n\nOptional: pressed flowers or other flat objects you’d like to include in your cyanotype artwork.\n\nAge Requirement \nStudents ages 60 and older. SUMMARY:Create\, Connect\, Age Well: Block-Printed Tea Towel
DESCRIPTION:Class Description:  \nJoin us for a “Create\, Connect\, Age Well” class designed for ages 60+ in partnership with Marine Mills Folk School. In this class\, you’ll learn the basics of block printing by transferring a design onto carving rubber and carving away the negative space to create your custom printing block. You’ll also learn how to roll ink evenly and hand-print your design onto fabric. \nChoose from a pre-made 4”x6” design or bring your own ready-to-use artwork. Using your carved block\, you’ll print a repeating pattern onto a 27”x27” cotton tea towel — perfect for functional use and adding a handmade touch to your kitchen décor. At the end of class\, you’ll take home both your finished tea towel and your carving block so you can continue printing your design on future projects. \n  \nYour instructor will provide the following materials: \nAll class supplies\, including designs and transfer materials\, rubber blocks for carving\, carving tools\, brayers\, barens\, ink\, test paper\, cleaning supplies\, cotton towels etc. \n  \nStudents are asked to bring:  \nOptional: an apron\, or wear clothes that could be stained.  \n  \nSkill Level \nBeginner-friendly\, no experience required. This class requires moderate hand\, arm\, and shoulder strength and dexterity\, and involves the use of sharp carving tools. The instructor will provide assistance and support during class; if you may need accommodations or special considerations\, please reach out ahead of time and we’ll do our best to support you. \n  \nAge Requirement \nStudents ages 60 and older.
